Harbisson identifies himself both as a cyborg; he feels he is technology, and as a transpecies; he no longer feels 100% human. His artwork explores identity, human perception, the connection between sight and sound and the use of artistic expression via new sensory inputs. In 2010 he co-founded the Cyborg Foundation with Moon Ribas, an international organisation that aims to help humans become cyborgs, defend cyborg rights and promote cyborg art. In 2017 he co-founded the Transpecies Society, an association that gives voice to people with non-human identities, defends the freedom of self-design and offers the creation of new senses and new organs in community.

Oobah Butler
The Number 1 Agency

The Unorthodox Guide to 21st Century Success

Biography

Oobah Butler is an award-winning filmmaker and LA Times best-selling author. In 2018, he released three films with VICE Media which were viewed almost 160m times. They were entitled ‘How To Become TripAdvisor’s #1 Fake Restaurant’, ‘How I Faked My Way To The Top Of Paris Fashion Week’ and ‘I Sent Fakes Of Myself To Be On TV Around The World’. His first book ‘How To Bullsh*t Your Way To Number 1’ was released in April 2019 and climbed to #8 on the LA Times’ non-fiction list and to #1 on USA Today’s Humor category. He has recently been interviewed in the New Yorker and endorsed by individuals such as Turner Prize-winning artist Grayson Perry, WIRED Editor Nicholas Thompson and scores of other world-renowned journalists.

For the most part, his work uses comedy and absurdity to comment on the modern era. For example, after releasing the film and article in which he made the shed he lives in TripAdvisor’s top-rated restaurant in London, Oobah dominated headlines, being interviewed on television stations all over the world. Singaporean parliament used his work as an example to inform new laws on fake news; The Washington Post penned a feature about his work. The likes of The Guardian and The New Yorker referenced it as a critique of online reviewing culture, while it was endorsed as an indictment of food culture by the likes of NOMA chef René Redzepi and Observer food critic Jay Rayner. The June 2018 documentary in which he swindled his way as a fake jeans designer, Georgio Peviani, to the top of Paris Fashion Week was also a hit, receiving a nomination at the Los Angeles Fashion Film Festival, garnering over 50m views, striking such a connection with viewers that a 19-year-old English young man legally changed his name to the fictious ‘Georgio Peviani’.

In the past eighteen months, he’s received four awards for his work; Best Use of Video: Weird at the 2019 Webby Awards; Content Creator of the Year 2018 at The Drum Online Media Awards, Video Project of the Year 2018 at the British Media Awards and Best Content Idea – Digital 2018 at the British Society of Magazine Editors Talent Awards.
